Speaker and mind coach, David Rahman shares an exercise from his book, Let it Go.
Take a pad of paper and a pen and spend an hour or so thinking and writing about your unhelpful beliefs, fears and habits which are not serving you. Have a good think and take your time.
Think about where these started and what the thinking that underpins all of this is based on. Does it come from deep-held family patterns, social lessons learnt in the psychological swamp of adolescence? How many of these ways of thinking are helpful in any way to you now?
Put as much as possible down on paper. You may be surprised at what you write down. Being honest and transparent with yourself can be a somewhat cathartic experience as you seek to let go of the thoughts, habits and ways of being which do not serve you.
This is by no means an easy exercise. However, it is definitely worth your time and effort.
TIP: When you do start the exercise, ensure that you are in a place where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Switch your tech off. It’s crucial that you are not distracted. This allows your mind to be calm and focused.
