Endogenous

“Endogenous” was birthed, like much of my work, so that I could present facets of myself in my own way, to the world. The installation refers to my health, my disabilities and three specific effects to my bodily fluids, but I have the power in this narrative. Where people often feel entitled to my medical history or diagnoses, I lose agency in the story that is told about me; but through “Endogenous” I reclaim the power in my story once again.

The sculptures in this work show my experience with chronic illness for what it is; at times gruesome, but now a fundamental, beautiful part of myself. “Ichor”, “Eruct” & “Offal” compose “Endogenous”, as a silky, glitzy, ornate portrayal of blood, vomit, and faeces. The materials I chose lead the development of the work and the techniques used in construction, while retaining my sustainable efforts in using recycled or deadstock fabrics.
