Rakie Ayola reads from Dat’s Love, Leonora Brito’s perceptive and spirited short stories about life, love and family from the point of view of Black and Mixed Race women from Cardiff Docks and beyond.
Rooted in the unique culture of Cardiff’s Butetown, Brito’s freethinking, free-talking
characters bring a unique perspective to subjects as diverse as motherhood,
unemployment, nightclubs, death, and Winston Churchill.
An exceptional Welsh writer, Brito’s work is often overlooked. Yet her timeless stories, full of gentle humour and sharp dialogue, are still relevant today in their exploration of race, identity, and the everyday lives of working class women and their communities.
Captured live over three nights and available to experience in 9 separate episodes, these intimate readings feature original music from Imran Khan and illustrations by Butetown artist Kyle Legall, also captured live from his studio in the bay.
