  • KINO ANKST - Emyr Glyn Wiliams is an award winning author, film maker, label boss and cinema programmer. Born in 1966, The year POP exploded!, and his interest in the power and affect of Welsh language alternative culture dates back to this point. With Ankst Records he rode the Cool Cymru wave in the 1990’s to land on the calm shores of the Ankstmusik label at the beginning of a new century. His BAFTA winning best film debut Y LLEILL(The Others)(2006) used cinema to explore the use of language, all languages – English, Welsh, Music, Visual – on modern Welsh life. His continued use of image and music to investigate reality in modern Wales since the late 1980’s has produced dozens of music videos and documentary programmes.(BANANA, SAUNDERS LEWIS V ANDY WAROL, CRYMI, JYS,JYS,JYST FEL Y FFILMS) His work as an author has concentrated on cultural commentary (as contributor to the magazine and website O’R PEDWAR GWYNT) but has also produced titles like his wide ranging, (and Welsh book of the year nominated), IS DEITLA-N UNIG(Subtitles Only)(2015) a Welsh language examination of a hundred years of foreign language cinema. A book that mixed autobiography, criticism, history and cinephilia together with the express intention of conjuring into existence a New Welsh Cinema. As a daily film and cinema programmer, a continuing record company boss, and occasional book writer who uses Welsh in all he does, he firmly believes the Welsh experience and culture needs to be lived first and examined later.
