Our Egin-supported projects are already underway!
Woody’s Lodge, Penlan are a charity supporting veterans and members of the emergency services and their families, with a network of sites across Wales. At the Woody’s Lodge site in Carmarthenshire, they have 11 acres of mature trees, gardens and pasture. They offer a range of activities to support their members.
They got in touch with Egin about plans for an allotment site, a food growing project and an apple juicing business. Using their experience from working with other horticultural projects, Peer Mentors Cathryn and Louise talked through different options with Woody’s staff; potential land uses, ecological microclimates, funding opportunities, building enthusiasm.
“I hope that making links through common goals such as tree planting and growing food will help build resilience in both individuals and communities,” says Peer Mentor Cathryn Wyatt.
Richard Rose, the group’s coordinator has just organised his first tree planting event (to build interest in the initiatives above), has mobile compost loos in the pipeline, and a polytunnel with beds ready for seedlings. All underway in the last few months!
