Back in March we announced our Music Video Fund in collaboration with Lŵp – 10 x £500 to be awarded to artists and directors performing in Welsh at the start of their careers.
The first to receive funding was the experiemental artist from Machynlleth, Izak Zjalic, aka Sachasom, who pitched an idea in collaboration with exciting upandcoming production company Pypi Slysh (Sam Stevens & Sion Teifi Rees). On the process of creating the video, Izak shared:
“Creating the video with Sam and Sion from Pypi Slysh was a unique process- shot in a fairly impromptu style, based on the original idea and was inspired by the film Climax by Gaspar Noe. Although the video for ‘Agor’ is quite abstract, through the different images and symbols, there is a narrative that follows my experiences in the creative process of making music, moving from the purity of creation for enjoyment, to aspects I inherited through reading about ‘hauntology’ philosophy and the worries of growing up. This is an internal struggle that is being presented over my album Yr Offerynnols Uffernoliadaus! – which aims to promote the idea of creating music that is natural to you and not to follow anyone else’s agenda. The video was filmed over two locations, an old house that burned down, The Vaults in Cardiff Bay, and at BEWT Studios. ”
The video for ‘Agor’, directed by Sam Stevens, is out on the same day as the single, 8th July. Until then, here’s a few pictures from behind the scenes.
