Meet the Writer – Bethan Marlow

A banging new musical about an unremarkable teenager.
Expelled from school and not even able to get a job at the chippy, Jax (she/they/whatever) is a cocky, loveable teen living with her Nan in a tiny, boring village.
When Jax meets Ffion, with her smart talk and loud looks, sparks fly. Queer teenage lust brings together this unlikely match in all its messy, clumsy and awesome glory.
Feral Monster follows Jax and her noisy, opinionated brain as they navigate love, identity, class and family.
Mashing up grime, R&B, soul, pop and rap, the soundtrack takes us from the high highs to low lows of the hormonal rollercoaster of adolescence.

Meta vs Life teaser trailer
Did you ever want to make contact with the dead? Or did you ever wonder what the afterlife would be like? Well now is your chance!
Meta vs Life is a unique hybrid experience that can be played online or in-person. Part immersive performance, part escape room, part murder mystery in which you, the audience, play as ghost hunters (in-person), or the recently deceased (online). Only by finding ways to work together will you solve the mystery of how the dead met their grizzly end.
The living start their ghost tour at a secret location in Cardiff City Centre, before exploring hidden corners of the city. The ‘dead’ join us from their homes or work stations, in a 90s inspired game console afterlife, forever stuck in a pixilated 2D limbo…
PERTHYN

FUTURE DIRECTIONS is a young people’s programme from MTW in partnership with Hijinx that explores how opera can become a powerfully expressive form for people of all backgrounds and identities. Working in collaboration with professional artists, the young, neurodiverse group of people devise and make a new opera, exploring their ideas and learning from and inspiring each other and the supporting artists.
For this project, Music Theatre Wales has brought together Theatre Maker and Dramaturg Jain Boon, Music Maker Mari Mathias, Singer Llio Evans and Film Maker Gavin Porter to work together with the young participants to create a new and original work in three movements. The resulting piece, Perthyn, is an opera in music, text, movement and film entirely built on the ideas and creativity of the participants, which carries a strong message from the young people for all of us to contemplate.
MTW want to know what people think of our work, to help us develop it in the future. Future Directions is a way we can learn alongside young people, and increase our understanding of neurodiversity, which helps us to create opera that everyone can enjoy. We are asking everyone who has watched Perthyn to answer these questions

Rhinoseros

A rhinoceros thunders through the streets of a quiet village. Everyone is baffled. Where did this terrifying animal come from?
But, one by one, the village residents succumb to the new order and transform into beasts. As the world and the people around him change, the unlikely hero Bérenger (Rhodri Meilir) clutches on to his identity and refuses to give in – but what is the cost of not conforming?
Filled with unexpected humour and nightmarish tension, Rhinoseros is a commentary on society, extremism and how hatred can spread like a virus. As relevant now as ever, this absurdist masterpiece by Eugène Ionesco comes to Welsh stages in its first Welsh language adaptation by Manon Steffan Ros under the direction of Steffan Donnelly.
