Eden – Siwgr

Eden – the legendary Welsh girl group are releasing their second single of the year ‘Siwgr’.
Following the success of ‘Caredig’ last month (the video being watched over 40,000 times within the first 24 hours) the band are ready to unleash their next banger in the form of a bluesy Princey pop tune penned by Yws Gwynedd, Rich James Roberts and Ifan Siôn Davies.
Non, Emma and Rachael, who all turn 50 this year, are proud to be demolishing stereotypes and pushing boundaries of what’s possible in the Welsh language music scene.
Although they formed over 30 years ago, it looks like 2024 will be their busiest year to date, with more exciting music to come – watch this space.

Happy New Year to everyone from team DAC! To kick off the year we are thrilled to be restarting Artist of the Month, where we put a spotlight on the brilliant work of one of our members.
Artist of the Month for January will be the actor and musician Chris Tally Evans.
‘My album, Cooking Blind, is now streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and about another 147 other platforms I’ve never heard of. The album deals with issues of disability, mental health, loss and love. A recording project with Clovis Phillips, a seriously talented multi-instrumentalist with a studio just up the road from me in rural Mid Wales. All songs on the album, Cooking Blind, were written by me, some indeed forty years in the making.’
If you are a DAC member and would like to take part in Artist of the Month get in touch with your Arts Officer. Information about how to become a member can be found here.

Carwyn Ellis a Colorama – Llythr Y Glowr

Filmed by On Par Productions at The Gate Arts Centre, Cardiff.
‘Llythr Y Glowr’ (‘The Miner’s Letter’) is a Welsh language translation of the Colorama song ‘In Your Memory’, which featured originally on their Some Things Just Take Time album in 2017. The welsh version saw only a very limited release at the time (only via YouTube and Bandcamp!) but has become something of a favourite with the DJs and listeners of BBC Radio Cymru over the years since then. The song itself takes the form of a final letter written by a miner trapped underground, addressed to his sweetheart whom he implores to carry on with her life and be strong, but to never forget him.

Adwaith – Addo

Dyma’r fideo i sengl newydd Adwaith – ADDO – sydd allan heddiw.
Yn dilyn rhyddhau ‘Bato Mato’, ail albwm Adwaith aeth ymlaen i ennill y Wobr Gerddoriaeth Gymreig 2022, roedd y band o Gaerfyrddin yn awyddus i ddychwelyd i natur amrwd eu sain gynnar. Mae ‘Addo’, sef cipolwg cyntaf o drydydd albwm y band fydd allan flwyddyn nesaf, yn gweld Adwaith yn mynd yn ôl i’w gwreiddiau gyda thrac agored, adeiladol a llac.
Yn dwyn ysbrydoliaeth gan artistiaid fel Juliana Hatfield a Hole, daeth ‘Addo’ at ei gilydd yn Black Bay Studios yn yr Hebrides, Yr Alban – gyda neb llai na James Dean Bradfield (Manic Street Preachers) yn chwarae gitâr ar y trac. Er bod y sengl wedi’i ddylanwadu gan felodïau disglair Breeders a Liz Phair, yn delynegol, ‘Addo’ yw un o ganeuon tywyllaf y triawd hyd yma. Eglura’r band: “Mae ‘Addo’ yn ymwneud â pherthnasau sy’n eich blino chi. Mae’n ymwneud â gofalu am rywun sy’n hunanddinistriol lle nad yw’n poeni amdanyn nhw ei hunain, a sut mae hynny’n cael effaith ar eich barn chi am y byd a’r bobl o’ch cwmpas.”

Angel Hotel – Oumuamua

Mae’r retro-rockers Caerdydd ‘Angel Hotel’ yn ôl gyda cân heintus arall sy’n siŵr o fynd yn sownd yn eich pen. Eu trac newydd ‘Oumuamua’ sy’n cael ei ganu’n gyfan gwbl yn Gymraeg, yw’r trac diweddaraf i arddangos eu gallu dwyieithog naturiol. Wedi’i disgrifio fel “teyrnged chwareus, tafod-mewn-boch i’r gwrthrych gofod dirgel”, mae’r gân yn cyfuno alawon a synths unigryw Angel Hotel gyda chwarae ar eiriau clyfar.
Meddai’r canwr Siôn, “Cawsom hwyl fawr yn ysgrifennu a recordio cân am aliens, rydym wrth ein bodd yn meddwl beth allai fod allan yna, gan obeithio o bryd i’w gilydd nad ydym ar ein pennau ein hunain. Ac roedd y fideo yn hwyl i’w saethu o amgylch ein tref genedigol. Allwn ni ddim aros i bawb glywed ein hantur cosmig Gymraeg.”
Ar ôl cynnydd cyson gyda senglau fel ‘Key Largo’ a ‘Bump’, mae Angel Hotel yn parhau i gyflwyno “tiwn ar ôl tiwn a dim arwyddion o stopio” (Nation.Cymru). Gyda sylw gan cyson gan raglenni radio BBC, premières fideo S4C, a’u dawn ar gyfer pop chwaethus, mae’r diweddaraf gan Angel Hotel allan o’r byd!
Fideo gan Rhys Davies.
