Lockdown – Deffro’n rhy gynnar!

When ‘Lockdown’ was announced I lost all means of work as a freelance photographer. I decided to turn the camera on my own family and document the smaller moments in life which usually passes us by because we are too busy to notice. A body of work to look back at in years to come, a documentation of a special yet difficult time.

Cofio / Memortal
Memortal/Cofio is a Span Digital Short. This pilot project explored the possibilities for a digital memorial app that could help people to record and share important memories, images, objects and sound recordings to tell the story of their lives. We teamed up with Pembrokeshire based animation artist Gemma Green Hope, and Bristol based app maker Owen Davis to create prototypes for an app that was simple to use, flexible enough to accommodate different user’s needs, and visually beautiful. This moving and life affirming film tells the story of the project.

SPAN Arts

Art as Social Change in Rural Wales.
SPAN is a vibrant community arts organisation with a 30 year history of making a significant contribution to the arts in Pembrokeshire. SPAN delivers community arts across the county to capitalise on the transformative power of the arts to create social change in West Wales. We work with volunteers, artists, performers and producers to create projects and experiences that enrich the lives of people living in rural areas, improve health and wellbeing, reduce loneliness and isolation, combat barriers to accessing services, tackle the impact of second home ownership and contribute to the digital inclusion agenda in Wales. We are ambitious for the arts in Pembrokeshire to inspire & connect rural people, places and communities creatively and seek to challenge perceptions of what rural communities are capable of and what they can achieve when they work together.

My name is Lucy Jenkins and I’m an artist and animator from Cowbridge currently studying in Aberystwyth University. My favourite type of art to create is realistic pencil portraits but I am also very fond of drawing cartoons of people – especially Welsh language bands. I brought some of my pictures to life through animating the music video for Mei Gwynedd’s song, ‘Tafla’r Dis’, released in 2019. Although I have only just started publishing my animations, I’ve been animating since I was about 8 years old and my passion for animating is still as keen as ever. When I’m animating, I like to take inspiration from the British animators of the 70s like David Sproxton and Peter Lord, Bob Godfrey, and Ivor Wood, as well as more general styles and trends from the cartoons of the 90s and 00s. My main inspiration, however, is people. Everyone has features that make them unique and interesting and art is a good way of showing how much I value them.
