What is the fund’s purpose?
The purpose of this fund is to commission community short films in the Welsh language. The films can document any social or cultural activity in the community, in a factual or creative manner. This fund is supported by S4C.
What format should my film be in?
The film will need to be in the Welsh language, and 7-15 minutes in length. The films can be presented as MP4 or MOV.
What is the application process?
There will be three windows to apply over 18 months, with 5 films being selected in each window. The closing date for the first application window is July 31. The dates of the second and third windows will be announced shortly.
You can apply by completing this form. It is possible to apply via video or audio format – contact am@pyst.net to discuss this, or if you have any further questions about the application process.
How will the films be selected?
The successful applications will be selected by an independent panel. If you’re unsuccessful in the first window, you can apply again.
When will I need to present the finished film?
You must present the finalised film within 4 months of signing the contract.
How will the films be broadcast?
The films will be broadcast for the first time on Am and promoted on our social media, newsletters and in other advertising spaces. Am will contact you to discuss a broadcast date after you have presented your film.
Should I subtitle my film?
The films will be subtitled bilingually by the company Cyfatebol, and therefore you are required to submit your film without any subtitles. Am will pay for the subtitling cost. The subtitle style of your films can be discussed with an Am staff member at the start of the process.
How will I be payed for the film?
You will receive £500 (+VAT if applicable) towards the costs of creating your film. £350 will be paid to you when you sign the contract, and the remaining £150 when the film is submitted
How do the rights work?
The rights of the film will rest with the filmmaker. By signing an agreement, you confirm that all the rights for every element of the film’s content have been secured for broadcast on Am, and that no claim will be made by anyone else. The film will premiere on Am, and will live there exclusively digitally for a month and then you can share it as you wish.
