We hope to expand our Board by recruiting new members who have skills, experience and/or interest in the following fields:
- Financial – working with the Board’s Operational Committee to monitor cash flow, accounts and other matters.
- Fundraising – offering ideas and advice on potential additional funding streams and the company’s suitability for them.
- Administrative – working with the Operational Committee to monitor the company’s administration
- Legal – offering advice and legal oversight of the company’s work
It should be noted that PYST Cyf is a Welsh language company, and that all Board meetings and correspondence are conducted in the Welsh language.
The Board’s Chair is Emily Roberts and the Vice Chair is Malachy Edwards. You can learn more about the team and staff, alongside the company’s aims and values here:
This is a voluntary role but travel costs are covered when relevant. Payment is offered for freelance workers. The Board meets on a quarterly basis for 1-2 hours a turn (predominantly online), and contains one face-to-face Away Day for the Board and Staff, at the beginning of the calendar year.
PYST Cyf has core values and aims that reflect an inclusive Wales through our governance, content, actions and partnerships. To further implement these aims we welcome applications particularly from sectors of the community that have historically not been adequately represented at Board level in the creative and arts sectors: specifically people with protected characteristics, especially women, people from minority ethnic communities, trans and non-binary people, and Deaf and Disabled people.
If you would like to further discuss this opportunity, please contact alun@pyst.net.
PYST CYF
Pyst Cyf is a not-for-profit limited company that runs the music distribution and promotion service PYST (www.pyst.cymru) and Am – the digital home of Welsh culture (www.ambobdim.cymru).
PYST began in 2018 as Wales’ first digital music distribution and promotion company. With the support of the Welsh Government, PYST developed rapidly and now represents a community of over 75 labels and has been responsible for a huge increase in streaming music from Wales: over 30 million streams per year on average, increasing not only the profile of Welsh music but also income for Welsh labels and artists.
An understanding of the digital habits of music users in Wales led to the establishment of Am in March 2020 (three weeks before Covid!): Wales’ first digital platform in the form of an app and website – for the Arts in Wales. Based on the same ethos of collaboration and community, AM’s first aims were to promote the digital content of the Arts sector in Wales and grow a global digital audience for Welsh arts. Am is now a digital home for over 450 organisations.associations and the website was relaunched and rebranded on its 5th anniversary last year.
PYST Cyf has grown since 2018 with the support of the Welsh Government: in the first place as joint funding between the Welsh Language Department and Creative Wales, and more recently through Creative Wales. The company also receives multi-year funding from the Arts Council for community work Am. As a result the company now employs four full-time members of staff and one part-time freelance member led by Alun Llwyd (Chief Executive).
