This powerful documentary film takes us on a journey from the South Wales Valleys’ coal-fired past to a future driven by change and possibility.
2025 marked the 40th anniversary of the end of the 1984-85 miners strike and the 30th anniversary of the reopening of Tower Colliery, the UK’s first worker-owned coal mine. One marked the end of an era. The other sparked a vision of hope.
Shot and directed by Jeremy Clancy, who grew up in the Derbyshire coalfields and saw the extraction and damage to community first-hand, this documentary weaves the past and future into a story of renewal.
Co-produced with local people across the generations it captures the energy, frustration and fierce pride of young people determined to shape a new future. It explores the possibility of a green industrial revolution that brings jobs, resources, justice and sustainable power back to where it is most needed.
Each screening will be followed by a Q and A session with the cast of the documentary and a community discussion around the themes coming out of the film and next steps.
