The mere suggestion of new material from SYBS was comparable to receiving an anticipated euphoric awakening alarm.
This is, of course, a testament to their corybantic catalogue-opener – ‘Paid Gofyn Pam’. Polarized to the unforgiving nature of today’s music landscape where the cry for continuous output is unparalleled, SYBS’ commitment to perpetual gigs both domestically and overseas has been rewarded with a cult following – expanding far greater than their native coterie of Cardiff.
A contagious antidote, ‘Cwyr’ is a searing concoction of industrial punk techno, channelling the incendiary bassline to a deep monotone monologue addressing the oblique utopian attitudes of society. Pinned by the delirious cacophony, ‘Cwyr’ captures a plethora of uncompromised aesthetics of 80’s nostalgia – bathed by the burgeoning buoyancy of young charm. Elevated by the reappearing shivering pitch of the guitar, this electro-punk melange will acclimatise organically in the intimate nature of obscure venues.
Let’s hope that the next crop to harvest at SYBS’ HQ comes in the form of an EP.
For fans of Working Men’s Club / Lazarus Kane / Do Nothing.
