Pellter Byr – Hannah Mefin

CommunitiesFilm

This Welsh language documentary explores the cultural heartbeat of Llais Ogwan, a local newspaper in Dyffryn Ogwen.

Through natural sound and observational footage, the film captures the slower rhythms of community effort and shared language. Interspersed throughout are subtle glimpses of past editions of Llais Ogwan.

The film seeks to highlight the importance of papurau bro as more than printed pages — they are vessels for memory, identity, and connection in rural Wales.

Drawing on my role as clerk for the Bethesda and Llandygai community councils — where I write the Crynodeb for Llais Ogwan — and my hands-on experience making handmade paper during my course at Coleg Menai, the film offers a personal insight into the tireless work that sustains this vital local institution. It celebrates the quiet dedication of volunteers, contributors, and organisers who keep the paper alive as a living record of rural Welsh language and life.

A quiet celebration of living Welsh culture, showing tradition as both archived and reimagined through care, iaith and craft.
