The game the two characters are playing is one rooted in masculinity’s mandatory limitations on the expressions of intimacy between men. As soon as either party expresses their wants and needs explicitly, the game is dropped; it becomes ‘un-sexy’, and in the real world, even opens up the possibility of physical violence.
Repression and limitation are the context, which is communicated by their masculine expression (style of dress, mode of speech, current activity), but the interaction we see has warmth and understanding, as if in opposition to this context.
