The multitude of languages we use to communicate, be they spoken or non-verbal, are arguably the most integral – and human – elements of our social existence. A painting can change a life. A telephone call can save one. A smile can, at times, reveal more than the most epic of soliloquies, while at others, a whisper can be deafening.

In this second issue of Folding Rock, we encourage our contributors to ‘speak to us’, as they probe the boundaries of language and communication. Featuring searing new stories from the likes of Emma Glass, Ania Card and Amy Grandvoinet, personal essays from Manon Steffan Ros and Sophie Buchaillard, a dive into the beautiful mind of Van Gogh by Horatio Clare, and an interview with Dylan Thomas Prize-Winner Yasmin Zaher. This and so much more – from some of the most exciting writers of creative prose at work today.

Folding Rock is a bold new magazine publishing the best short fiction, creative non-fiction and literary criticism from Wales and beyond.

“We are so proud to be announcing this next cohort of Folding Rock contributors, and so pleased by how widely and creatively this theme has been interpreted – by both commissioned writers and in the abundance of excellent submissions, too. Once again, we sincerely wish we had the space to publish more of the brilliant pieces we have read over these past months, but can’t wait share this daring and diverse collection of voices in Issue 002: Speak to Me.” – Kathryn Tann, co-editor.

The cover artwork, created by artistic director Matt Needle, is another colourful and eye-catching design which will be accompanied by a series of original illustrations within the magazine.

Folding Rock Magazine is once again being printed at the historic Gomer Press in Llandysul, Wales, and will be available to buy in bookshops and online from 10 July. You can pre-order an issue now at foldingrock.com, or subscribe with special offers for founding members.

The release will be celebrated at a Folding Rock Summer Party, taking place on the evening of the 10 July at Tramshed Tech in Barry Goodsheds in partnership with friends of the magazine.
