Dead Method – Marwolaeth

Lŵp and PYST are excited to share the second video from their joint Music Video Fund – Marwolaeth (Death) by Dead Method, animated by Molly Allen.

Dead Method is a pop star for the new age, whose music plunges deep into the depths of alternative electro pop with a dark edge as he explores life itself. From love and loss to politics, gender and more with sobering honesty and poetic flair.

“The song was written a few months after the completion of the rest of my album and served as the last piece of the puzzle” says Lloyd Best, aka Dead Method, about the track.

“I was grieving during the writing process as we had lost a couple of family members. This was my way of exploring my grief and honouring their memories. I chose to write the song in Cymraeg because it reflected the celtic culture of my family.”

This is the first animated video Lŵp and PYST have contributed towards and (potentially) the first animated Welsh language music video. It was animated by Molly Allen, a Cardiff-based artist that combines neon colour schemes with a D.I.Y. punk aesthetic to create bold, psychedelic, punk-inspired visuals that explore themes of queer identity and expression.

In regards to the project, Molly said “It was such a pleasure to work on this project. Because Lloyd came to me with such a clear and detailed description of what shape he wanted the video to take, it made the animation process feel so organic; I was able to really focus on accurately executing his wonderful vision as well as communicate the poignant message behind the song.”

The pair are clearly a match made in heaven, “I explained my concept to Molly and she was able to create a beautiful animated version of the vision inside my mind” said Lloyd, “the result is everything I wanted to express captured through Molly’s amazing artistic lens. I wanted to create a representation of grief and how grief is often just all of the love you didn’t get to express when they were here.”
