Tactile Bosch

tactileBOSCH is an ambitious and energetic arts collective that champions artistic experimentation. Based in Cardiff, we specialise in events that bring together a heady mix of performance art, multi-media, site-specific installation, and social space.
As an itinerant project, tactileBOSCH seeks out and adapts to various spaces and contexts. Reclaiming unusual, disused and otherwise inaccessible buildings, we respond to the resonances of the architecture, fabric, context, and history of the buildings we re-animate.
We aim to go beyond the usual relations between artist, curator, gallery, audience, and artwork in order to engage audiences in encounters with art that are unexpected, challenging, transformative, and fun! Our events attract large and diverse audiences and have earned tactileBOSCH its reputation as one of Wales’s most exciting and experimental arts organisations.
In its 19-year history, tactileBOSCH has worked with over 1000 artists across the globe, bringing together local and international artists and curators to present a vibrant and diverse array of new art to new audiences. For us, it is as important to nurture talent as it is to showcase it, in order to nourish and support the arts ecology of Wales.
Our unconventional approach of exhibiting young and emerging artists alongside mid-career and established artists serves to create a built-in support system – a user-friendly environment in which artists can learn from each other, explore, forge new collaborations, and take risks. By working in disused buildings and unusual spaces, we create a context in which artists are free to experiment with their work in ways entirely impossible in a traditional gallery setting. This modus operandi has been key to tactileBOSCH’s success in delivering exciting, cutting-edge multi-media exhibitions and events in Wales and abroad.
While experimentation and innovation are central to our mission, inclusivity and accessibility are also key concerns. tactileBOSCH maintains an excellent track record of successfully increasing public engagement, attracting new audiences by generating an atmosphere that is fun and inviting to everyone.
Creating environments/events in which audiences become immersed, interact and explore freely provides people with more ownership of the process of viewing and experiencing art. It is always our intention to create a welcoming and inclusive space, and wherever we are located we work to develop strong connections with the local community and businesses, involving them in the creative process, encouraging participation, discovery and sharing.
Inclusivity is at the heart of our practice as an organisation and we believe that by taking art out of the gallery and into alternative social contexts we engage with a much broader section of society, making the arts accessible to those that may feel that art is elitist or exclusive. The significant numbers of people that have attended our shows and the diversity of the audiences we attract is testament to the appetite for and relevance of what we do.
