Combining art with science; come and find out about the hidden world of lichens in Powys.
LICHEN LISTENING
‘To study lichens is to get a taste of earth and health, to go gnawing the rocks and rails.’ — David Henry Thoreau. 1859
During these events we will introduce embodied & wellbeing practices during a walk to lichen colonies alongside ecologists Josie Bridges and Ellie Baggett.
Combining lichen interpretation with ways of touching, moving and familiarising, we will attempt to remember what it is to be symbiotic from these mysterious and resilient organisms.
On completion, we will offer a meditative listening space, immersed in the sonic ecologies of lichen field recordings, accompanied by live Celtic harp played by Ceri Owen-Jones.
Becoming Lichen is an ongoing research project, originally supported by Oriel Davies, Arts Council of Wales and Natur am Byth during 2025-26.
