Am is proud to launch Tudalen, a new digital space on our website to publish original literature from Wales. In partnership with the National Library of Wales, Tudalen will, through an open call-out, share 3 winning pieces of Welsh language micro-fiction on St David’s Day.
We are asking for pieces of micro-fiction responding to the theme ‘Portrait’, to celebrate the National Library of Wales’ latest exhibition, ‘Portrait & Power‘. The deadline for submitting a piece of work is 23:59 February 12th, 2026. More information can be found in the guidelines below.
- Micro-fiction is defined as a complete story told with a limited number of words (up to 500 words).
- We are asking for work responding to the theme of ‘Portrait’, but it should be noted that the theme should serve as a source of inspiration, and that there is no need to respond to the ‘Portrait and Power’ exhibition directly.
- Mae’n rhaid i’r darn fod yn yr iaith Gymraeg.
- The piece should not have previously been published elsewhere.
- You can submit your work by sending your piece as a Word document to am@pyst.net. You can also send your piece as an audio file: contact lea@pyst.net for more information on this.
- The writers of the 3 winning pieces will receive a financial prize of £100 each.
- The winning pieces will be selected anonymously by a Judging Panel comprising of Eluned Gramich and Malachy Edwards.
- We will notify the authors of the winning pieces on February 24th, and those pieces will be published on Am on March 1st.
- The copyright of the work will remain with the author, but the work will be required to be shared exclusively on Am for a period of one month.
