Meet the Artist: Carmen Diana Almeida

Our relationship with Carmen:
We first met Carmen on our artist development programme ‘Arise – Wales Creatives’ in partnership with @WMC, where Carmen was part of the directors cohort. 

When thinking about a creative idea Carmen would like to make a reality, she pitched the idea of a short film featuring her different drag personas, telling the story of a Spanish artist who arrived in Cardiff, and made her way, finding her creativity and passions in spaces like Cabaret at WMC. Themes of belonging, self-expression, and family were all important to this concept. 

Describing a memorable moment of the process, Carmen said: “The first meeting with Sita was absolutely brilliant! It felt like she was really getting my ideas and she was 100% confident that I had the potential to make something meaningful with it. It filled me with confidence and passion for the project!”
